As consumers, our main concern will always be whether or not the product or service we pay for satisfies us. And with homeowners who seek renovation, the number of complaints against contractors has been increasing through the years.
The alarming rate has finally brought about the plans of developing a new accreditation scheme with the signing today, August 11, 2014, of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) between Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and the Singapore Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association (RCMA).
Consumers who engage with CaseTrust-RCMA accredited firms will be protected through an added performance insurance bond.
“The bond will act as a buffer for non-performance of contractors and provide greater peace of mind to consumers who are renovating their homes,” the two associations said in a statement.
Under the new scheme, a standard contract between the consumer and the contractor will be developed that lays out all the policies on fees and fees refund and dispute resolution mechanisms.
15 interior design firms have joined the pioneer batch and shown support on this new scheme. Rezt ‘n Relax is proud to be one of them and our Managing Director John Foo signed on our behalf. We stand in our principle that consumers always come first and that’s why we did not give it a second thought to rally behind this monumental movement that would further protect both the consumers and the contractors.
Watch out for the development of the story in the coming months.
