Kitchen is one important room in the HDB flat. It is where food is being prepared, groceries are stored and laundries are done. Modern BTO HDB flats have now included a courtyard, which the occupant can use it to dry the wet laundries.
Kitchen Zone and Layouts
There are mainly 3 areas of work in the kitchen, also known as the “Working Triangle”. It is carried out among the hob, sink and refrigerator.
There are 3 common kitchen layouts, namely the Galley, the L shaped and the U (or Peninsula) shape. Each incorporates the working triangle in its own way.
Carcass – Kitchen Cabinets
Solid wood is a popular choice for the construction of kitchen cabinets as they are durable. From cabinets, bases to frames and doors. They are sturdy and strong and thus remain a beloved choice.
However, the traditional solid wood cabinets are way more expensive because of the materials and workmanship involved.
A strong alternative would be particleboard or plywood. They are strong and durable, as well as low cost, which brings the value to customers and therefore cutting the cost for you.

Plywood Kitchen Cabinets
Widely used in modern kitchen cabinetry, plywood is simply engineered wood. Most top brands manufacture kitchen cabinets from plywood. Plywood cabinets are made of large, flat pieces of wood.
These “plies” are cut thin and then glued together to form a larger, solid piece of Plywood which is strong, reliable, and can last many years. Plywood is mostly used in kitchen cabinetry for shelving, cabinet boxes, and doors.
Particle Board Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets can also be constructed from particleboard: many small pieces of wood pressed together with adhesive glue and formed into one solid board.
Particleboard is losing favor as a cabinet material as it will not last as long as plywood.
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) Medium density fiberboard is similar to particleboard. Both are made in the same way, but MDF is made out of wood fibers instead of particles.
These fibers are placed together under pressure and formed into a single board panel. MDF offers a finer texture then particleboard, but the material is much heavier MDF is used to make doors.
This type of material is widely used today for kitchen cabinetry, but it is not the most popular option.
When it comes to doors in a kitchen setting, you may want to look for something that is durable, lasting and strong. Materials selection is very important here at Rezt & Relax.
Below are the materials that we use for the kitchen.
The work top of the kitchen refers to the working area showing on the top side, where you can cut or prepare the food on. It is very important that the material is waterproof and solid.
